Flying foxes to be dispersed from Cairns City Library area

bats_in_cairns.jpgThe Cairns Regional Council are attempting to disperse the flying foxes from the Cairns City Library area. Trimming of the beautiful Heritage listed trees around the library has already taken place to the tune of $42,000 ratepayers’ money in an attempt to move the flying foxes on. There are now moves to delist the trees so that they can be cut down.

Dispersals have a history of being expensive failed projects. FoE Kuranda supports CAFNEC in its call to protect both the trees and the flying foxes. Seewww.cafnec.org.au to sign the Friends of Flying Foxes petition – a group of which we are proud members.
